Prewrite
Comprehend the article that Dr. Preston showed us. Read a
text and listen the audio of it and write an essay of my opinion and my
thoughts of listening vs reading.
Essay
My opinion about listening and reading a book is that I think
I prefer to read it because I can go at the speed that I want I can express the
tone and volume of the passage in many ways, I could make it interesting, I don’t
like to listen to audiobooks, because once you start to listen, its interesting,
but after several minutes of hearing the audio it starts to get bored and annoying,
I mean this is my personal opinion, everyone thinks different.
In fact, listening to an audiobook it’s not the worst thing in
the world, some people learn more by hearing it than looking at it, maybe I could
hear it but only if it’s a long book. Why is this? well, 5 years ago I read a
book called the hunger games, I spent like 2 months reading it, I could say
that my experience in reading the book was magnificent, I got a lot of
knowledge and I understood it so well that I could’ve made a presentation without
looking at the book, not right now though, I read it 5 years ago and I don’t think
I could remember it. A month after I read the book I found an audiobook if it, I
was listening to it and I finished the audio in less than a month, in fact I could
say that the audio didn’t help me in any way, the audio was so fast that I couldn’t
understand it compared to the lecture I did before.
Now lets compare reading vs listening, when you read a book
you can pause and look for a word that you didn’t know and examine when your
stock on something, this helps you to understand the passage, on the other hand
listening to a book is like your listening to a dispatcher, you can pause the
audio but can’t look at it, and what if there’s
a word that you don’t know and seems strange to you, maybe you can
search the word but you don’t know how to write it, that’s why I prefer to read
a book even if I spent 2 months on it, it could be a lot of time but it is worth it.
